  • Nine SPE sections have been awarded the 2019 SPE Presidential Award for Outstanding Section, the highest honor a section can receive. The winning sections are
  • SPE sections are located around the world and provide an operating framework for all major society activities. Sections are semi-autonomous units and self-governing within the framework of SPE policies. Section members elect officers and directors annually. Sections are organized into regions, and each region has representation on the SPE Board of Directors.
  • After a promising start in 2018, the Beyond the Borders initiative is coming back with a larger and improved second edition, where another five SPE sections—Germany, Portugal, Vienna Basin, Bergen, and Moscow—have now joined France, Romania, and Italy in their efforts to gather young professionals (YPs) across borders.
  • Last year saw the first international program organized by SPE young professionals (YPs): Beyond the Borders. The initiative involved the French, Italian, and Romanian YP SPE sections each organizing a 3-day event engaging members from the three sections.
  • SPE Online Education recently added a new web-based resource for technical content–Industry Interviews. These are 30-minute audio interviews with experts about their personal and professional experiences in the oil and gas industry. Recorded live, the interviews are archived and available on demand for free for SPE members.
  • The SPE Beyond the Borders Initiative of the SPE young professionals (YPs) of the French, Italian, and Romanian sections held its second meet up at Bucharest, Romania, from 13 to15 September.
