During the recently held 2020 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE), winners of SPE regional student paper contests competed for the international prize in three categories: undergraduate, master's, and PhD. The contests were broadcast around the world to the judging panel. Winners were announced at the Student Award Ceremony held the next day.
SPE coordinates 14 regional contests at the undergraduate, master's, and PhD levels. Students compete against other students in their region for the opportunity to advance to the International Student Paper Contest held during ATCE. Contestants enter an abstract of their paper and present it on the day of the competition. The papers of the regional winners who proceed to the International Student Paper Contest at ATCE will be published in the conference proceedings and on OnePetro.
