John C. Tobin

For over 45 years, John C. Tobin has authored numerous papers on energy price, the investment decision process, reserve estimation, and public energy education; many of these forms the springboard for his annual reports on energy “Confessions of an Energy Price Forecaster.”

Tobin is a past Distinguished Lecturer for SPE offering presentations to SPE’s international membership on public energy education and policy issues. He is frequently used as a subject matter expert to the mainstream media on topics of energy price, policy, and energy education. He founded both the energy Literacy Project and its follow on the Natural Resources Education Program.

He has also served as an adjunct instructor at Colorado School of Mines’ Department of Petroleum Engineering, Tobin has taught energy economics and project evaluation techniques. The course’s emphasis was on the investment decision process that the industry must face in light of the many uncertainties in the business environment.

Tobin’s more than 40 years of experience include positions with ARCO, Scientific Software Corp., Martin Marietta, and Eastman Kodak. He has BS and MS degrees from the University of Rochester in mechanical and aerospace sciences.
