Sarah Harris, vice president, SPE Oklahoma University Student Chapter

Harris took this photo on her most recent trip as an intern for ConocoPhillips at its Kuparuk oil field on Alaska’s North Slope. The picture was taken with a Nikon D60 from the backseat of a vehicle. The photo shows a herd of caribou, which wander freely through the North Slope oil fields. In the background is a pipeline elevated above the tundra. All wildlife have the right-of-way on the North Slope; if animals are crossing a road all vehicles must stop and wait for the animals to move.

Equipment used: Nikon D40, 18 mm, 1 sec. at f/3.5, ISO400.
