Thailand-based petroleum exploration and production company PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Ltd. (PTTEP) has announced its partnership with universities throughout the country to help promote academic research on geoscience and petroleum engineering, and professional development in E&P in support of securing energy security for the people of Thailand.

The company recently signed memorandum of understandings with Chulalongkorn University, Chiang Mai University, and Khon Kaen University known as the “PTTEP Subsurface University Energy Connect” which aims to promote research and studies in geoscience and E&P engineering as well as the development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology.

“Under the scheme, they will carry out research and development, exchange knowledge, and produce talents in E&P with expertise in related fields including geoscience and petroleum engineering, etc. While petroleum will remain a primary source of energy significant for economic development, the knowledge in geoscience, both geology and geophysics, can be leveraged for the development of CCS in Thailand. The technology is crucial in reducing carbon dioxide emitted to the atmosphere and can propel the country towards its goals concerning global warming,” Montri Rawanchaikul, PTTEP CEO said in a press release from the company.

The company said it intends to expand this academic collaboration to other universities.
