The imminent need to bring YPs and students close to field development activities led the SPE Balikpapan Section to launch the 2020 Virtual Integrated Field Development Workshop and Symposium. The initiative aimed to highlight the technical, commercial, and business approaches from a field development perspective, and provide a taste of the variables that are taken into consideration when making decisions with limited information.
The Workshop had multiple sessions from July to November 2020. The content was diverse and covered a wide range of topics:
- Subsurface evaluation
- Drilling and well operations
- Production technologies
- Economic evaluation.
The content was presented by distinguished speakers from Pertamina Hulu Mahakam.
One of the webinars was organized as the Technology Ideas Symposium. This specific topic was prepared with the objective to bring together 16 participants and challenge them to provide the best strategy to develop a hypothetical Deepwater project. The results were evaluated by three judges (Trimaharika Widarena, Praja Hadistira, and Bakhtiar Nofty Cahyono). First place was awarded to Arief Ashrofi, a petroleum engineering student from STT Migas Balikpapan.
We hope that The Virtual Workshop and Symposium has filled some of the technical gaps from our young professionals and student's especially around the hands-on-the-job knowledge that is usually implemented when a project is developed. Our section has a strong commitment to serve our members and provide technical sessions even in the challenging virtual environment.
According to the SPE Balikpapan Section, more than 900 people from various cities across the globe were part of the sessions.
