This month’s SPE Spotlight on Young Professionals highlights George Buslaev, head of the drilling department at Ukhta State Technical University. Ukhta is an important industrial town in the Timan-Pechora Basin of Russia and has a long-standing history in the oil and gas industry.
Being the son of a scientist-engineer who initiated directional drilling in the Timan-Pechora oil and gas province, Buslaev has always had a passion for the petroleum industry, receiving his PhD from the Ukhta State Technical University.
Through his hard work and determination he has published 57 works, including 6 patents and 6 SPE papers. His engagement in a variety of fields made SPE become an integral part of his life. He helped in the formation of the SPE Timan-Pechora Section in October 2009 and soon became the section chairperson.
Buslaev has been praised by his peers for using his time as chair to help develop a wider variety of events for the section, attracting members from a greater distance to share their experience and technical knowledge. His dedication to the Timan-Pechora Section helped it earn the President’s Award for Section Excellence in 2014, 2015, and 2016. The SPE Ukhta State Technical University Chapter was also recognized for its activities when it was awarded an Outstanding Chapter Award in 2015.
Buslaev has shown great commitment to his academic ambitions as well as his drive to support others in his region. Thanks to people like him who dedicate their time to develop their regions, SPE is able to provide support to its members worldwide.
