The University of Massachusetts Amherst has introduced a new bachelor of science degree in environmental engineering, allowing students to pursue the discipline as a standalone program rather than as a specialization within civil engineering.

The program is supported by 10 faculty experts in areas such as climate change, hydrology, biotechnology, water quality, and environmental sensing. Students will benefit from hands-on learning opportunities, state-of-the-art facilities, and partnerships with research centers like the Northeast Climate Adaptation Science Center.

Aligned with the college of engineering’s sustainability goals, the program complements ongoing graduate offerings and is bolstered by the upcoming sustainable engineering laboratories (opening in 2026).

Applications for fall 2025 are open, with more details available here.
