Augustana University (AU) is teaming up with the University of North Dakota (UND) to launch a 5-year dual-degree engineering program in fall 2025, combining on-campus and online learning. Students will begin by earning a BA in chemistry, physics, or mathematics at AU while taking online engineering courses from UND starting in their second year.

By the third year, they will attend summer lab workshops in Grand Forks, North Dakota, gaining hands-on experience and an introduction to the metaverse as part of a virtual learning community. Students can earn an ABET-accredited BS degree in specialized engineering fields such as biomedical, chemical, petroleum, mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering, depending on their major.

Carl Olimb, the program director, highlights that the collaboration with UND is both cost-effective and strategic, paving the way for future in-house engineering programs at AU. The program aims to attract students from across the region, preparing them for impactful careers in engineering.

“We’re offering more than just a degree,” AU Provost and Executive Vice President Joel Johnson said. “We’re providing a pathway to a meaningful, impactful career.”
