Hector Klie is an experienced computational and data scientist focused on developing physics-informed artificial intelligence solutions for the oil and gas industry. Klie is cofounder and CEO of DeepCast.ai and an adjunct professor of the Department of Computational and Applied Mathematics at Rice University. He was director of enterprise data solutions and data science technical lead at Sanchez Oil & Gas Corp. (2016–2017), staff reservoir engineer and lead data scientist at ConocoPhillips (2008–2016), and associate director and senior research associate at the Center for Subsurface Modeling in the University of Texas at Austin (2003–2008), and research scientist at PDVSA-Intevep (1989–2003). Klie has published more than 80 papers in the areas of reservoir simulation, production forecasting, field optimization, uncertainty quantification, reduced-order modeling, and machine learning; has patented five inventions; and is an associate editor of the Computational Geosciences. He has chaired and co-organized several technical events at SPE, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Klie is currently a chairperson of the SPE Virtual Open Subsurface Workshop Committee. He holds a PhD in computational science and engineering from Rice University and a master’s degree in computer science at Simon Bolivar University.
