Weichang Li

Aramco America

Weichang Li received dual MS degree (2002) in electrical engineering and computer science and ocean engineering, and PhD (2005) in electrical and oceanographic engineering, from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). From 2006 to 2008 he was an Office of Naval Research (ONR) postdoctoral fellow at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). He was with ExxonMobil Corporate Strategic Research Lab from 2008 to 2014 where he led the machine learning group. Since 2015, he has been with Aramco America’s Houston Research Center where he currently leads the AI technology group. He has published over 100 papers and 20 patents. His recent research focuses on developing machine learning and signal processing algorithms/models for geophysics, geosciences, and petroleum engineering applications. He has been the associate editor for geophysics special section on machine learning, and recently IEEE Transaction on Neural Network and Learning Systems special issue on Deep Learning for Earth Sciences and Planetary Geosciences. He has co-organized the SEG machine learning post-convention workshop from 2018 to 2022.
