The SPE Student Chapter at King Fahd U. of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, was founded in 1996. Its aim is to give students, in cooperation with young professionals, an enhanced understanding of the oil and gas industry by exposing them to new technologies and developments in petroleum engineering through seminars, conferences, and field trips. A second aim is to teach students teamwork and communication skills and to instill a spirit of volunteerism. The chapter has now become the most active in the Middle East, India, and Africa region.

The new Young Professionals group has provided the student chapter a great deal of help, support, and mentorship, said Chapter President Hussain S. Ramis. The SPE Saudi Arabia Section this year formed a new committee to serve both student chapters and YPs.
