The Appomattox field is the first in a series of commercial discoveries by Shell in the Norphlet formation in the Gulf of Mexico. The Appomattox floating production system is located 80 miles southeast of Louisiana in approximately 7,400 ft of water. It was brought on line ahead of schedule in May 2019.
The video shows some of the issues encountered while building the Appomattox and how the team drew on the knowledge of those outside of the oil and gas industry to overcome them.
Appomattox is a joint venture between Shell (79%, operator) and CNOOC International (21%).
