Save the date for SPE German Section’s free webinar on 2 June, 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. (CET). Germany, lacking conventional lithium resources, is exploring alternatives such as geothermal brines.
This webinar focuses on lithium prospecting in the North German Basin, where significant lithium concentrations have been identified in Permian (Rotliegend and Zechstein) and Triassic (Buntsandstein) formations. Concentrations reach up to 600 mg/L, with an estimated total lithium metal capacity of up to 23.21 million tonnes. While promising, commercial extraction will require innovative approaches due to the depth and low permeability of key formations.
Speaker: Katharina Alms, head of reservoir geology at Fraunhofer IEG and lecturer at Ruhr University Bochum, brings experience in geodynamics, structural geology, and geothermal research.
