The SPE Universitas Indonesia Student Chapter (UI SC) plays an important role in Indonesia’s energy education landscape. Established in 1999 as the first recognized student department club within the engineering program, the organization has since expanded its reach to include students from the mathematics and natural sciences programs.

SPE UI SC was the recipient of the Presidential Award for Outstanding Student Chapter for 3 consecutive years in 2023, 2024, and 2025. This award recognizes student chapters that demonstrate exceptional performance in industry engagement, operations, and technical dissemination. By maintaining high standards, SPE UI SC has grown from a student organization into a practical link between academic study and the realities of the global upstream oil and gas sector.

The current 2026 stewardship marks a period of organizational growth and strategic rebranding. On 9 February, the chapter officially expanded its workforce by welcoming 113 new officers, who now serve across 13 specialized divisions. These divisions are organized under a structure that includes specialized roles such as research and innovation, journalism, and competition development, ensuring that every facet of the industry from technical engineering to marketing and communication is represented.

To integrate this large and diverse group of students, the chapter held an intensive internal event on 14–15 February. This gathering focused on building a shared culture of synergy and impact, allowing all officers and functionaries to align their personal goals with the chapter’s broader mission. By fostering these internal bonds, the leadership ensures that the more than 1,200 members of the chapter receive high-quality programming that is both informative and professionally transformative.

Technically, the chapter remains dedicated to innovation, encouraging members to explore advanced disciplines such as completions; data science, engineering analytics; and health, safety, and environment. This commitment to technical excellence is reflected in a strong record of recent achievements. In 2025, the chapter secured championships in OGIP’s International Paper Poster Competition, the Mud Innovation Competition at PROTECT, and the APEX Business Case Competition.

The previous year, 2024, was equally successful, with victories in the PetroBowl Asia Pacific Regional Qualifier and various case study events. These competitions provide students with the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world problems, such as fracturing fluid design and drilling fluid optimization, ensuring they graduate with the practical insights needed to excel in the energy industry.

Collaboration is at the heart of the SPE UI SC 2026 strategy. For the past 5 years, the chapter has maintained strong relationships with industry partners including Pertamina, SLB, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, and ExxonMobil.

These partnerships are manifested through a variety of work programs designed to provide members with direct industry exposure. Highlighted programs like the oil and gas 101 series, townhall meetings, and specialized software training give students the tools they need to stay competitive.

The chapter also organizes frequent field trips and company visits, such as recent excursions to the Pertamina EP Tambun Field, where students can observe operational assets firsthand. These events serve not only as educational opportunities but also as networking platforms where students can interact with industry professionals and potential employers.

As the chapter looks toward the future under the banner of its current journey, it remains focused on its core values: strengthening collaboration to achieve shared goals and creating meaningful contributions that leave a lasting impact.

The 2026 stewardship is dedicated to broadening the exposure of SPE UI SC, making it an even more attractive partner for global energy stakeholders.

By focusing on "slowing the scroll" and creating digital content that grabs attention through depth and original analysis, the chapter is ensuring its voice is heard by students and professionals alike. Whether through international competitions like Oil Week 2026 or internal events like Petrodays 2026, the chapter continues to provide a platform where excellence is the only standard.

SPE UI SC invites all interested parties, from students to industry leaders, to join this journey of growth and to contribute to an organization that is truly illuminating the path for the petroleum engineers of tomorrow.

The SPE UI SC is sponsored by the SPE Java Indonesia Section.
