The SPE Vienna Basin Section (VBS) successfully launched its innovative project, “SPEducate Project 1.0,” with a promising first session in collaboration with the STEM Ambassadors and Energy4me initiatives.
Mission and Vision
The mission of the SPEducate Project 1.0 is to facilitate knowledge exchange and showcase the energy industry for what it truly is—dynamic, interesting, and rewarding. By engaging with the public, especially students and YPs, the project aims to demystify the energy sector and highlight the critical role it plays in our daily lives and future sustainability.
The vision is to create a network of informed and inspired individuals who understand the importance of the energy industry and are motivated to contribute to its evolution. The project embraced the motto: “One person at a time.” This mantra emphasizes the power of individual engagement to motivate people and spread the word about the opportunities within the energy sector.
Project Objectives
The initiative is designed to facilitate quarterly gatherings, uniting sections with a shared interest in advancing the collective vision and mission of SPE, particularly through the Energy4me program. The primary goal is to transcend sectional boundaries, engaging with the broader public across different countries and emphasizing SPE's crucial role in securing energy supplies and contributing to energy transitions.
A key aspect of this collaboration is the emphasis on knowledge-sharing activities. These activities involve promoting SPE sections within primary and secondary schools and establishing strategic partnerships with other organizations and universities. The inaugural meeting set a strong foundation for this ambitious project, fostering a spirit of unity and shared purpose among participants.
Event Highlights
This event featured Natan Battisti, SPE London Young Professionals Committee Member and TWA Editorial Board Member, as the guest speaker, who shared insights into their latest activities focused on knowledge exchange and promoting energy and SPE in high schools. Battisti's presentation was a highlight of the session, offering valuable insights into his employer Harbour Energy’s promoted initiatives in energy education and awareness in schools around London.
In 2022, Harbour Energy established the STEM Ambassador network in the UK and Indonesia. Battisti has led the initiative in London and with a team of volunteers from different backgrounds. The initiative has reached more than 15 schools and impacted more than 1,000 students through discussions about energy, oil and gas, and careers in the industry.
His talk demonstrated practical approaches to engaging young minds and inspiring them to consider careers in the energy sector.
Gratitude and Future Prospects
The SPE VBS expresses its gratitude to all who attended and contributed to this significant initiative. The participation of various sections is instrumental in driving the expansive growth of energy knowledge, motivation, and fulfilment within the collective pursuit of the SPE community.
The success of this first session collaboration signals a bright future for the SPEducate Project 1.0 initiative, promising continued collaboration and impactful knowledge-sharing in the sessions to come. By focusing on individual engagement and leveraging the strengths of the STEM Ambassadors Initiative, the project is well positioned to make a lasting impact on the perception and future of the energy industry.
