SPE Port Harcourt Section To Host Young Professionals Symposium

The 3-day event includes a keynote session, panel discussions, breakout sessions, an energy challenge, and a career fair.

The 2025 SPE Port Harcourt Section Young Professionals Symposium is an event designed to equip young professionals with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to excel in the evolving energy industry. This year’s theme, "The Role of Energy Professionals in Optimizing the Midstream and Downstream Value Chain for Sustainable Growth in the Energy Industry," will focus on sustainability, technological innovation, and strategic development within the midstream and downstream energy sectors.

Previous editions of the symposium have provided attendees with valuable insights, meaningful networking opportunities, some of which led to job placements, and strong career advancement prospects. Senior professionals and companies that have participated in the symposium have also benefited from new business connections, leading to contract opportunities, knowledge sharing, and fruitful partnerships. This year aims to build on that legacy, equipping participants with actionable strategies to navigate the evolving energy industry and accelerate their business and career growth.

The event will include

  • Keynote session and panel discussions. Featuring industry leaders and subject matter experts discussing the future of midstream and downstream energy operations in Nigeria and Africa.
  • Four on-demand courses. Practical training on key industry skills, including product development and business models, artificial intelligence-driven process automation, refinery process optimization with Aspen HYSYS, and safety and environmental management in the energy industry.
  • Three breakout sessions. Engaging discussions on key industry topics, including strategies for refined crude oil pricing and supply, building a sustainable compressed natural gas ecosystem, and leveraging digital transformation to enhance fiscal metering in Nigeria’s oil sector.
  • Innovative energy challenge. A platform for young minds to propose cutting-edge solutions to industry challenges.
  • Debate competitions. Thought-provoking discussions on the topic “Biggest Roadblock to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Value Chain: Regulatory Framework or Infrastructure.”
  • Career Fair. A platform for young graduates and job seekers to learn about different career options, network with recruiters, and increase their chances of getting hired.

The symposium will be held 24–26 April.
24–25 April: Virtual Short Courses (1:00–5:00 p.m. WAT)
26 April: Hybrid Main Event (9:30 a.m. WAT)

The main event will be hosted at Shell Residential Area, Port Harcourt: Aba Expressway, Rumuokwurusi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, with virtual participation options available.
