Brazil’s Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro beat out 22 teams from across the globe to become the 2024 PetroBowl champions. This is the university's second first-place win in PetroBowl history after the team's first victory in 2016 in Dubai.

The competition took place on 23 September at the 2024 SPE Annual Conference and Technical Exhibition (ATCE) in New Orleans, Louisiana. The PetroBowl contest is SPE's largest student competition with SPE chapters from around the world participating in a quick-fire quiz covering a wide range of topics relevant to the oil and gas industry.

This year marked the return to a fully in-person event with 32 teams who won their respective regional qualifiers invited to participate in the competition. Due to travel and financial issues, only 22 teams were able to compete in this year's event.
