Winners of Switch Energy Alliance’s fourth annual Switch Competition have been announced with Team Energy Nexus from India taking home the win and $10,000. The Switch Competition is a global competition that challenges university students from all around the world to tackle the pressing issue of energy poverty. The 2024 Switch Competition featured 145 teams representing 34 countries and was supported by 152 volunteers.
Finalists participated in a virtual Final Judging Round on 9 November, where they presented and defended their case studies to a panel of judges. The top teams were awarded cash prizes:
- 1st Place: Team Energy Nexus ($10,000)
- 2nd Place: Team Quwa ($7,000)
- 3rd Place: Team Dream Team ($5,000)
- 4th Place: Team AKA Energy ($2,000)
- 5th Place: Team Intensification ($1,000)
Social Media Contest Winners
- Overall Winner: Team Energy Evolutionists (Asia/Pacific) – $400
- Regional Winners: Teams from the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa – $200 each.
“The Switch Competition tackles major issues that we often don’t think about on a daily basis in the United States, so it is a really interesting and tough challenge to solve,” said Team Dream Team member and University of Houston student Sarah Grace Kimberly.
Switch Energy Alliance is a Texas-based nonprofit focused on energy education. The Switch Competition began in 2020 with more than 3,200 students from 55 countries competing over the years.
