Shell announced that it will propose appointment of Andrew Mackenzie, SPE, as a nonexecutive director of the company at its 2020 Annual General Meeting. The appointment is to be effective from 1 October.
Mackenzie was CEO of BHP Group from 2013 to 2019, having joined the company in 2008 as chief executive of nonferrous metals. From 2004 to 2007 he was at Rio Tinto and held the roles of head of industrial minerals, and later head of industrial minerals and diamonds. Previously, he spent 22 years at BP. He joined BP in 1982 in the research and development department and worked in operations and technology in many locations and across most business streams and functions, principally in exploration and production and petrochemicals. His roles at BP included chief reservoir engineer and CTO. In his last roles he was group vice president for chemicals in the Americas, then for olefins and polymers globally.
From 2005 to 2013 Mackenzie served as a nonexecutive director of Centrica. He also served on many not-for-profit boards, including public policy think tanks in the UK and Australia.
