Calcasieu Pass LNG Tank Roof Facility and Perimeter Ahead of Schedule

The tank dome roof and secured marine perimeter come 8 months after the Calcasieu Project reached FID. It also comes less than a month after completing a successful string test of the refrigerant compression system.

Venture Global LNG raised the first LNG storage tank roof at its 10-mtpa Calcasieu Pass LNG export facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, on schedule and 8 months after reaching final investment decision on the project.

The 1.8-million lb tank dome and assembly were air-raised into place on 24 April, which allowed for better and safer access as well as a faster construction schedule. McDermott International unit CB&I Storage Tank Solutions is constructing the project’s dual 200,000-m3 tanks.

Weeks Marine and engineering, procurement, and construction contractor Kiewit also completed the facility’s marine perimeter wall and levee 3 months ahead of schedule.

In early April, Venture Global completed a successful string test of the first Calcasieu Pass mixed refrigerant compression system at Baker Hughes' testing facility in Massa, Italy.

The company’s next focus is on the arrival and installation of the project’s modular equipment.  The first pipe rack modules were successfully installed in April, and equipment for the project’s 720-MW combined cycle gas turbine power plant is scheduled to begin arriving next month.
