Claudio Descalzi

Eni appointed Claudio Descalzi, SPE, as CEO and general manager. Descalzi has been Eni’s CEO since 2014. He joined Eni in 1981 as an oil and gas field petroleum engineer and then became project manager for the development of North Sea, Libya, Nigeria, and Congo. In 1990, he was appointed head of reservoir and operating activities for Italy. His previous executive roles at the company include managing director of Eni’s subsidiary in Congo; vice president and managing director of Naoc, a subsidiary of Eni in Nigeria; executive vice president for Africa, Middle East, and China; executive vice president for Italy, Africa, and Middle East; deputy COO of the exploration and production (E&P) division; and president of Assomineraria. From 2008 to 2014, he was COO of the E&P division at Eni and held the position of chairman of Eni UK from 2010 to 2014. Descalzi is a recipient of the Charles F. Rand Memorial Gold Medal. In 2016, he was awarded an honorary degree in environmental and territorial engineering by the University of Rome, Tor Vergata.
