After serving for more than 21 years, Mark Rubin, CEO and executive vice president of SPE, will step down from his role after the end of March 2023.

During his tenure, he led the Society in growing to become a global organization providing technical knowledge and a sense of community to a diverse membership.

Rubin, a 40-plus-year SPE member, has witnessed the petroleum industry’s ups and downs and during his tenure has navigated the organization to fulfill its mission and expand services to its members.

Kamel Ben-Naceur, 2022 SPE President, said, “On behalf of the SPE Leadership, I want to express my gratitude to Mark Rubin for his great leadership of the SPE throughout his 21 years of executive management. SPE has transformed into a global organization, from both membership and staff support, under his guidance and that of former SPE Boards. Mark has led the SPE ship through three major storms, including the 2008 global financial crisis, the 2015–2016 downturn, and the recent pandemic.”

The SPE International Board is forming a search committee to screen candidates for his succession.
