The 2025 International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC)has unveiled the winners of a series of new award categories that recognize impactful contributions and innovations of industry leaders and emerging talents. Historically, IPTC has awarded an outstanding industry project award, however, this year, that category is joined by a trio of additional awards focused on sustainability and exceptional individual achievements.
Honoring outstanding industry projects with a capital investment of more than $500 million, the IPTC Project Excellence Award is presented to Eni for its Coral South project, Mozambique’s first ultradeepwater FLNG development. The project positioned the country as an LNG exporter when it came online in 2022 and has delivered significant economic and social benefits.
The award acknowledges exemplary teamwork, geoscience expertise, engineering practices, and sustainable energy efforts, while also emphasizing a strong culture of health, safety, and environment and positive community impact.
Aramco’s Sea Water Injection Department Journey towards Sustainability Excellence was chosen to receive the IPTC Sustainability Excellence Award for 2025. The world’s largest seawater treatment plant for oil reservoir injection set a new standard for sustainability by conserving billions of gallons of groundwater and enhancing energy efficiency through digitalization and renewable energy.
This award celebrates the exceptional efforts of companies in promoting sustainable energy development. Recognizing initiatives that prioritize societal value, health, safety, and low-carbon technologies, this award is a testament to the industry’s commitment to human-centered energy sustainability.
PTTEP Chief Executive Montri Rawanchaikul is the 2025 IPTC Distinguished Achievement Award winner. This award recognizes individuals who have significantly advanced the energy industry through technical and innovative contributions. Celebrating exemplary leadership and global peer recognition, it honors those who inspire future leaders and drive the advancement of energy sciences and technologies.
Rawanchaikul’s leadership has transformed PTTEP into a global energy leader, achieving exceptional growth while prioritizing sustainability and safety. He has driven technological innovations in natural gas production, CCUS, and renewable energy integration, positioning PTTEP at the forefront of the energy transition.
A quartet of young professionals are being recognized as 2025 IPTC Young Professional Achievement Award winners. This award highlights the exceptional contributions of young professionals in the energy industry. Recognizing their creativity, innovation, and leadership, the award celebrates their dedication to industry service and their role in advancing technology, achieving international recognition, and actively participating in professional societies and global events.
The winners include Sun Zhe, senior engineer/project manager, CNOOC Research Institute; Fengyuan Zhang, associate professor, China University of Petroleum (Beijing); Braden Gilbert, VP of business development and sales, Micro-Bac International; and Nihal Darraj, CCS researcher, Imperial College London.
