The ASEAN Council of Petroleum and Energy (ASCOPE) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) exchanged a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) at the Offshore Technology Conference Asia (OTC Asia) 2026, marking a new milestone in strengthening collaboration to support energy security, sustainability, and technical excellence across the ASEAN energy sector.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between ASCOPE and SPE to promote technical knowledge exchange, professional development, and industry capability building across the region’s oil, gas, and related energy sectors.

Under the MoC, both organizations will collaborate on initiatives such as technical knowledge sharing, conferences, symposia, workshops, and the dissemination of industry research and best practices. These efforts aim to strengthen regional expertise, foster innovation, and support responsible and sustainable energy development in ASEAN.

Henricus Herwin, ASCOPE secretary in charge, said, “This cooperation reflects ASCOPE’s commitment to fostering regional collaboration and strengthening the technical capabilities of the ASEAN energy community. By partnering with SPE, we aim to further promote knowledge sharing and innovation that supports the region’s energy security and sustainability goals.”

Simon Seaton, CEO of SPE, added, “SPE is pleased to collaborate with ASCOPE in advancing technical excellence and professional development across ASEAN. Through this partnership, we look forward to supporting the exchange of knowledge and strengthening industry capabilities as the region navigates an evolving energy landscape.”

The MoC will remain in effect for 3 years, with both organizations exploring joint initiatives and programs that benefit the broader ASEAN energy community.
