QatarEnergy has awarded Chiyoda Corp. a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities for North Field West.
Chiyoda announced on 21 January the contract related to QatarEnergy’s third expansion of LNG production from the North Field. When online, the North Field West expansion project is expected to increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity to 142 mtpa.
The value of the contract was not released.
The North Field off the northeast shore of the Qatar peninsula was originally discovered in 1971, and by 1985, it had been established as the largest nonassociated natural gas field in the world with recoverable reserves exceeding 900 Tcf. The North Field covers more than 6,000 km2.
In February 2021, Chiyoda along with Technip Energies, won the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning contract to deliver four mega trains, each with capacity of 8 mtpa, and utility facilities for the North Field East project. That project is expected to be completed in 2027.
