The SPE Asia Pacific and OTC Asia team recently completed a series of courtesy visits in Indonesia, reinforcing their commitment to fostering strong relationships with key industry stakeholders.

These engagements reflect SPE’s continued commitment to engaging directly with national oil companies, international operators, government agencies, and professional societies to enhance alignment of regional priorities and collaborate on emerging opportunities to shape the future of the industry.

During the visit in Jakarta, the team had the privilege of engaging with Djoko Siswanto, the newly appointed Chairman of SKK Migas–Indonesia’s Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities. The discussion included its support for APOGCE 2026 and underscored the growing importance of strategic partnerships in shaping the future of the country’s energy landscape.

The team also met with senior leaders from Pertamina and its subsidiaries. Henricus Herwin, Senior Vice President of Strategy & Portfolio at PT Pertamina (Persero); Mery Luciawaty, Vice President of Upstream Business Planning & Portfolio Management, representing Chalid Salim, CEO of Pertamina Hulu Energi; and Avep Disasmita, President Director of Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia, shared insights into the company’s upstream strategies and perspectives on aligning industry efforts.

Further strengthening industry ties, the team engaged with bp Indonesia, Eni, and Petronas—each sharing their exciting ventures and growth in-country, including the areas of CCUS and deepwater.

Productive meetings with the Indonesian Society of Petroleum Engineers (IATMI), represented by Chairman Raam Krisna and Secretary General Inge Sondaryani, reaffirmed the strong collaboration between SPE and IATMI and their ongoing commitment to driving advancements in technology and knowledge sharing within the industry.

Indonesia’s increasing upstream activities, including exploration and development acceleration, as well as major projects featuring deepwater gas, innovative business models, and integrated technologies such as CCUS, are driving the country's energy landscape.

Insights from these engagements are helping to shape the content of upcoming regional events to align with industry needs.

  • SPE Symposium: Hydrogen and Hydrogen-Based Fuels (11–12 June, Jakarta) will explore how Indonesia and the wider region are innovating in hydrogen production, infrastructure, and implementation to become key players in the low-carbon energy landscape.
  • SPE Asia Pacific CCUS Conference and Exhibition (26–27 August, Kuala Lumpur) will build on discussions around advancing carbon capture technologies and deploying scalable solutions to meet decarbonisation targets under the theme "Commitment to Action: Unlocking the Full Potential of CCUS."
  • SPE/IATMI Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (APOGCE) (14–16 October, Jakarta) will tackle the balance between energy security and sustainability—key issues raised during the visits—under the theme "Empowering the Future: Strengthening Energy Security and Accelerating Sustainability."
  • Offshore Technology Conference Asia (OTC Asia) (31 March–2 April 2026, Kuala Lumpur) will provide a regional platform to showcase offshore innovation and excellence, aligned with the vision discussed during the meetings to responsibly advance Asia’s offshore energy sector.
