Ganesh Thakur, 2012 SPE President, has been named president of the Texas Academy of Medicine, Engineering, Science, & Medicine (TAMEST) Board, effective 4 February.

Thakur is a distinguished petroleum engineering and mechanical and aerospace engineering professor at the Cullen College of Engineering and Director for Energy Industry Partnerships at the University of Houston (UH). He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Inventors. He has previously served as TAMEST vice rresident, TAMEST treasurer, and TAMEST treasurer-elect.
“I am honored to become president of TAMEST and love the collaborative spirit of the organization, which allows prominent research leaders across the state to come together to deliberate and support research in medicine, engineering, science, and technology,” Thakur said. “TAMEST has always supported the best and brightest in our state, and I look forward to helping carry on its mission while continuing to develop opportunities for the next generation of scientific leaders within the state of Texas, the US, and worldwide.”
Thakur will serve a 2-year term in this role.
Thakur was named an SPE Distinguished Member in 2001, SPE Honorary Member in 2019, and received the SPE Reservoir Characterization and Dynamics Award in 2005. He was also awarded Orange County, California Outstanding Engineer of the Year, and Distinguished Alumni Awards from Penn State University, Distinguished Alumni Award from IIT (ISM).
He holds a BS in petroleum engineering from IIT (ISM), an MA in mathematics from Pennsylvania State University, an MS in petroleum and natural gas engineering from Pennsylvania State University, an MBA from Houston Baptist University, and a PhD in petroleum and natural gas engineering from Pennsylvania State University.
