SPE Introduces Optional Tagline To Reinforce Global Mission

SPE has unveiled a new optional tagline—Solutions. People. Energy.—designed to emphasize the Society’s mission of sharing innovative solutions, empowering members, and addressing the global demand for sustainable energy.

SPE has unveiled a new optional tagline—Solutions. People. Energy.—designed to emphasize the Society’s mission of sharing innovative solutions, empowering members, and addressing the global demand for sustainable energy.

A Collaborative Effort

The initiative to explore an updated tagline began in April 2024 when the SPE International Board’s Technical Content Committee formed a Tagline Work Group. Comprising nine internationally diverse board members, the group was tasked with evaluating previously used taglines and considering alternatives that support what members expect from SPE today and in the future.

After multiple discussions, in July 2024, the Board approved Solutions. People. Energy. for SPE sections, chapters, and events to optionally use. In January 2025, the Board more broadly approved its use in global marketing and communications.

Why Solutions. People. Energy.?

Each word in the tagline reflects a core element of SPE’s mission:

  • Solutions— SPE is committed to fostering technical knowledge exchange and innovation that addresses the dynamic challenges of the energy sector.
  • People—At the core of SPE’s mission are its members who strive to drive the industry forward. Their expertise, dedication, and resilience are essential for achieving a sustainable energy future.
  • Energy—Since AIME launched a petroleum division in 1913 and SPE was separately established in 1985, SPE has remained focused on oil and gas and related technologies. Today, we see new opportunities to apply our expertise to other subsurface energy resources, such as geothermal, while continuing to empower and advance the industry to meet the world’s energy needs safely and sustainably.

This effort aligns with SPE’s 2023 strategic plan and directly addresses member concerns about attracting the next generation of professionals to the industry.
