The SPE Reservoir Technical Discipline (Community) and Advisory Committee are taking the initiative to gather valuable insights from their global SPE Reservoir members to assess the current landscape of reservoir engineering across industry and academia.
This assessment will be conducted through a global survey of Reservoir members. Their feedback will be pivotal in identifying emerging and evolving trends, challenges, and opportunities—ensuring that SPE programs, services, and initiatives remain relevant, impactful, and aligned with the evolving needs of the industry.
Participation in the SPE Reservoir Technical Advisory Committee (RAC) initiative is not just important—it is essential. By sharing their perspectives, Reservoir members actively contribute to the advancement of reservoir engineering and help shape the direction of future initiatives that benefit professionals, researchers, and students alike. This is a key opportunity for the RAC to influence SPE’s technical programs, knowledge-sharing platforms, and community engagement efforts.
Rahim Masoudi, SPE Reservoir Technical Director, said, “Together, SPE Reservoir members can strengthen the reservoir engineering discipline and the required multidisciplinary integration, foster innovation, and empower the next generation of industry leaders.”
The survey subject matter framework includes:
1. Reservoir characterization and formation evaluation.
2. Reservoir analysis and engineering.
3. Reservoir management and surveillance.
4. Underground storage and CCUS.
5. Energy transition and expansion areas.
Survey elements and focus areas include member organization/affiliation types, region and demographics, hydrocarbon recovery practices, data sources, technologies and technological advances, areas requiring improvement and advancements, the digital and AI landscape, progress and challenges in large-scale deployment, and many other key elements.
These insights will help identify trends, challenges, and opportunities, ensuring that SPE programs, services, and initiatives remain relevant, impactful, and aligned with both member needs and the evolving demands of the industry.
Submit your survey feedback by 21 July 2025 to ensure it is considered by SPE.
