The US accounted for 75% of global growth in LNG liquefaction capacity last year as Europe’s worldwide imports jumped 66%, according to the International Gas Union.

New LNG capacity in 2019 kept pace with higher trading volumes and supply/demand growth. Key questions and barriers still remain for the future of the LNG industry in 2020.

In its first 50 years, LNG has become the world’s fastest-growing gas supply source and is now part of an upheaval in the global energy market. Today, the sector stands at a crossroads, and the industry must adopt new thinking to address current and future needs of buyers, sellers, and consumers.

Three global energy industry associations have signed on to the Methane Guiding Principles to increase focus on reducing methane emissions across the natural gas value chain.
