Since its inception in 1996, the SPE/IADC Asia Pacific Drilling Technology Conference and Exhibition (APDT) has served as a critical platform where drilling and energy professionals converge to exchange views, deliberate solutions for prevailing challenges, and enhance operational efficiency through collaboration and sharing of best practices. The 2024 edition promises to be no different, reinforcing its legacy of fostering innovation and collaboration within the industry.
Hosted by PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) under the theme of “Advancing Drilling and Well Technologies for a Resilient Future,” APDT 2024 underscores PTTEP’s commitment to achieving Net Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions target by 2050 as part of their EP Net Zero 2050 initiatives.
APDT 2024 will be a carbon-neutral event for the second consecutive year, thereby neutralizing the greenhouse-gas emissions associated with the conference.
Scheduled for 7–8 August 2024 at the Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld, Bangkok, Thailand, APDT 2024 will facilitate meaningful dialogues, provide invaluable insights, and showcase a meticulously curated program highlighting cutting-edge drilling innovations. The event is set to feature an array of technical presentations, strategic panels, and special sessions that will explore the future of drilling technologies and address a broad spectrum of interests within the drilling community.
Benjamin Choo, senior vice president of well engineering and operations at PTTEP and chair of the APDT 2024 Technical Program Committee, announced that over 500 paper submissions were received from more than 90 organizations across 35 countries.
"The diversity and quality of the submissions are a testament to the ongoing advancements and the collaborative spirit within the industry," Choo noted. This vibrant participation illustrates the dynamic nature of the industry and its commitment to continual advancement.
The event will be headlined by Montri Rawanchaikul, chief executive officer of PTTEP and APDT 2024 conference chair, who will deliver the keynote address. Joining him will be high-level executives from global organizations, including Henricus Herwin, senior vice president of strategy and investment at PT Pertamina (Persero); Hazli Sham Kassim, vice president of development, upstream, at PETRONAS; Chatit Huayhongtong, president of Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production; Martin White, region senior vice president, Asia Pacific at Halliburton; and Harvey Snowling, chief operating officer at Borr Drilling.
APDT 2024 is set to offer a comprehensive agenda, covering a spectrum of topics that encapsulates cutting-edge developments and innovations driving our industry forward. Distinguished panels will address autonomous drilling systems, machine learning and AI in well operations, CCUS, sustainable drilling practices, smart technology integration, path to net zero carbon emissions, environmental stewardship, and more.
More than 100 technical presentations will be presented across a variety of technical topics at the technical and ePoster sessions including advanced drilling fluid and cementing technologies, advancements in coiled tubing intervention, advances in well technology, HSE and sustainability, innovative intervention technology, and novel approaches in managed-pressure drilling (MPD).
With participation from leading organizations such as PTTEP, Borr Drilling, Chevron, NOV, Air Drilling Associates, Derrick Corporation, PT. COSL Indo, and many more, APDT 2024 is poised to be a hub of innovation, expertise, and networking. The event is expected to showcase the industry's resilience and forward-thinking approach amidst the evolving energy landscape.
