Weatherford International plc announced a strategic agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) on 13 May to advance the company's digital transformation and drive innovation across the energy sector.
Under the agreement, Weatherford has selected AWS as its preferred cloud provider and will migrate and modernize its portfolio of software and hardware solutions to the AWS cloud. This includes its Modern Edge Platform, which merges software-enabled hardware with Weatherford’s CygNet control system to deliver a modular, low-disruption modernization path for energy operations.
The partnership also aims to accelerate the development of Weatherford’s Unified Data Model—an API-compatible solution enabling the integration, harmonization, and analysis of multi-asset data—designed to enhance operational efficiency and support data-driven decision-making.
Additionally, AWS will power enhancements to the WFRD Software Launchpad, Weatherford’s digital marketplace that offers customers access to in-house and partner applications while ensuring data sovereignty and flexibility.
“We are excited to work with AWS to deliver a comprehensive suite of innovative solutions that enable our customers to drive efficiency and innovation,” said Girish Saligram, president and CEO of Weatherford. “This collaboration allows us to leverage AWS’s world-class cloud infrastructure to help our customers modernize their operations, reduce complexity, and achieve greater autonomy in their decision-making.”
Howard Gefen, GM for Energy and Utilities at AWS, added, “AWS capabilities are accelerating Weatherford’s digital transformation and helping the company drive innovation in their digital solutions to meet customers’ needs.”
Weatherford said the collaboration marks a significant step in Weatherford’s commitment to providing scalable, cloud-based solutions that empower energy companies to optimize operations and pursue sustainable growth.
