APA Corporation has deemed its Awari exploration well in the previously untested northwest portion of Block 58 offshore Suriname noncommercial. The probe was drilled using drillship Noble Gerry de Souza. No additional details on the well were provided by APA. Suriname exploration has been in focus ever since ExxonMobil found 11 billion bbl with a series of discoveries in neighboring Guyana.

The Awari results add to the recent disappointments in Block 58. In August, APA said it abandoned the Dikkop well in the area after striking water-bearing sandstones.

TotalEnergies is the operator of Block 58 with a 50% working interest. APA holds the remaining half stake.

Elsewhere, at the Sapakara South-2 (SPS-2) appraisal well also in Block 58, the joint venture will begin flow-test operations following drilling to the targeted Maastrichtian-Campanian formation. SPS-2 is located approximately 4.6 km south of Sapakara South-1.
