Equinor Awards Contracts for Offshore Hywind Tampen Wind Farm

Equinor today signed contracts totaling around $359 million (NOK 3.3 billion) for the Hywind Tampen wind farmdevelopment. The contracts have been awarded to Kværner AS, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy AS, JDR Cable System Ltd, and Subsea 7 AS.

Kværner: The company will provide engineering, procurement, and construction of the floating concrete hulls which will carry the wind turbines, and includes delivery of the marine operations phase. This includes the full project management, engineering, assembly site management, mooring system installation, units tow-to-field, and installation of the floating wind turbine units at the Tampen area. Marine operations will be performed as an integrated subcontract to the main contract, executed in a 50/50 joint venture between Kværner and DOF Subsea.

Siemens Gamesa: Eleven Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD turbines will be fabricated at several locations in Europe before they are transported to Wergeland Base in Gulen in western Norway for assembly. The floating foundations in the Hywind Tampen project are ballast-stabilized and anchored to the seabed with mooring lines. Siemens said in a press release the lightweight nacelles of its large direct-drive wind turbines are particularly suited for floating foundations.

JDR Cable System Ltd: The electrical cables will be delivered by JDR Cable System Ltd and fabricated in Hartlepool in the UK.

Subsea 7 Norway AS: Seaway 7, the company’s renewables and heavy-lifting business unit, has been awarded a contract for the installation of 11 inner-array and two export cables, and connection of the electrical cables to the Snorre and Gullfaks platforms.

Equinor as operator will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the wind farm. Maintenance of the wind turbines will be carried out by Siemens Gamesa’s Norwegian service organization through its 5-year contract for the wind turbine delivery.

The Hywind Tampen contracts are subject to final approval of the plan for development and operation by Norwegian authorities. The wind farm is scheduled to start production at the end of 2022.
