Fugro secured an initial 3-year contract with UK-based offshore well decommissioning service provider Well-Safe Solutions to deliver its integrated marine-based solution onboard the Well-Safe Guardian, a bespoke semisubmersible unit for executing subsea well decommissioning work.
Fugro will be supplying and supporting remotely operated vehicle services, rig positioning, and remote operations. Support will come from its remote operations center in Aberdeen, Scotland, which will reduce the number of Fugro personnel required onboard the Well-Safe Guardian to improve efficiency and maximize safety.
The Fugro contract comes after Schlumberger was awarded significant work in February for the provision of plug and abandonment well services aboard the semisubmersible. The scope of that award includes supply of cementing service, wireline services, wellbore fluid services, and fishing, milling, and swarf (metallic waste) recovery services.
After Well-Safe Solutions acquired the Well-Safe Guardian in 2019, it was upgraded and modernized in the Port of Nigg, Scotland, and has the ability to work in water depths to 1,500 ft.
