PTTEP Chief Shares Thai Operator's Strategy To Increase Gas Production and Stay Closer to Home

Phongsthorn Thavisin, CEO of PTTEP, joins SPE Live for an interview about the operator's projects offshore Myanmar, Malaysia, and beyond.

SPE Live: Fireside Chat — Phongsthorn Thavisin, CEO, PTTEP

SPE Live’s discussion with Phongsthorn Thavisin, CEO of PTTEP, covered the Thai-based oil and gas company’s long-term strategy directions and upcoming projects. Thavisin is also the conference chair of the IADC/SPE Asia Pacific Drilling Technology Conference (APDT) that is being held virtually 8–9 June.

PTTEP is one of the fastest-growing operators in Southeast Asia and is looking to take advantage of the region’s growing demand for natural gas. Thavisin said that PTTEP’s current oil-to-gas production ratio is about 30% to 70%, respectively. The operator’s goal is to push the gas share toward 80%, in part because of the volatility of oil prices.

PTTEP’s top chief also spoke about the company’s international strategy, the role it sees in venture-capital-funded technology, and how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the industry.
