State-owned Qatar Petroleum will move ahead with its LNG projects, despite delays brought on by current market conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Company CEO Saad Al-Kaabi told Reuters the company will not downsize the North Field LNG expansion project (NFEP) offshore the Qatar peninsula, but it will postpone production startup until 2025. The project will increase production from 77 to 110 mtpa with the construction of six new trains.
The company issued a tender last April for the construction of 60 LNG carrier ships for its NFEP, adding that its orders could exceed 100 carriers over the next decade.
Its Golden Pass LNG project in Sabine Pass, Texas remains on schedule.
The Golden Pass project is a partnership with Qatar Petroleum (70%) and ExxonMobil affiliates; the project reached a final investment decision in February 2019. Expansion will add liquefaction and export capabilities to the existing facility, with estimated send-out capacity of 16 mtpa. The facility is expected to be operational in 2024.
