SPE and The Open Group Announce Strategic Collaboration

SPE and The Open Group have signed a memorandum of understanding to advance collaboration and innovation in the global energy industry.

SPE and The Open Group are pleased to announce the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to advance collaboration and innovation in the global energy industry.

SPE has over 132,000 members in 146 countries. Its mission is to connect a global community of engineers, scientists, and related energy professionals to exchange knowledge, innovate, and advance their technical and professional competence regarding the exploration, development, and production of oil and gas and related energy resources to achieve a safe, secure, and sustainable energy future.

The Open Group, whose vision is Boundaryless Information Flow achieved through global interoperability in a secure, reliable, and timely manner, is a global consortium that enables the achievement of business objectives through technology standards across its various forums.

Judy Cerenzia, VP, Forum Operations, The Open Group, said, "The Open Group is proud to partner with SPE to bring the benefits of the OSDU Data Platform to the SPE community. This important cross-organizational collaboration will enable the oil and gas industry to accelerate much needed digital transformation by leveraging the significant work that has been put into building the OSDU platform, as well as additional industry projects.”

The Open Group OSDU Forum provides a vendor-neutral environment for the development of open data standards and utilizes the global reach of The Open Group to build awareness, recognition, and adoption that enables the energy industry to collaborate on the development of transformational technology to support the world’s changing and evolving energy needs.

The Open Group OSDU Forum and SPE will work together to further improve the sustainability, performance, and operational efficiency of the energy industry through their core missions. The collaboration offers accelerated development across energy sectors, early access to data standards, technical insights, and a platform to shape the future of energy data ecosystems.

The OSDU Forum and SPE will mutually support and participate, where appropriate, in their global and regional conferences, symposia, forums, and workshops. This will involve the promotion of panels, webinars, conferences, publications, and work groups for knowledge dissemination, wider multidisciplinary awareness, and deeper user-based reach of our members and member companies.
