The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has released its 2025 annual report, Energizing the Future, highlighting key achievements, strategic initiatives, and continued commitment to advancing the global energy community through innovation, knowledge sharing, and professional collaboration.

Despite challenging market conditions in early 2025, SPE achieved meaningful progress across its strategic priorities—energy transition, financial sustainability, governance, and publication quality. Membership grew by 4% to more than 132,000 professionals and students across 146 countries, reflecting the Society’s expanding global reach. Major milestones included the launch of the EnRG-LLM™, developed in collaboration with Aramco Americas and i2k Connect, and new partnerships with ADNOC, Arpel, and Malaysia’s HRD Corp. to strengthen global knowledge exchange and workforce development.

SPE hosted major industry events including IPTC 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, GOTECH in Dubai, and ATCE’s centennial celebration in New Orleans, convening thousands of professionals to discuss the future of energy. On the publishing front, OnePetro surpassed 1.3 million documents and SPE Journal reached a record 500 papers, underscoring SPE’s leadership in technical knowledge dissemination.

“SPE continues to evolve with the energy landscape—expanding our technical scope, leveraging AI, and engaging a new generation of professionals,” said Olivier Houzé, 2025 SPE President. “Together, we are shaping a sustainable and technology-driven energy future.”
