CO2 emissions

Royal Dutch Shell said on 14 March that it planned to reduce carbon emissions from its oil and gas operations and product sales by 2–3% during the 2016–2021 period, the first time the company has issued carbon footprint targets.

Developing performance indicators that will provide meaningful comparisons across the wide variation in oil and gas platforms is important, since good indicators can drive optimal operations. But is is also complex.

This paper discusses novel technologies for increasing the energy efficiency of offshore oil and gas platforms. Three case studies are in progress that are based on actual oil-producing platforms—two on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) and one in the Brazilian basin.
