Gullfaks

In 2015, the world’s first subsea multiphase gas compression system was installed offshore Norway. The system comprises two-off 5-MW machines configurable for serial or parallel compression. This system has now gained considerable and valuable operational experience.

The Norwegian wind farm is expected to start up in 2022. The wind farm is also expected to create spinoff effects during the project’s life.

Equinor and the Snorre and Gullfaks partners have made a final investment decision for the Hywind Tampen offshore wind farm development. By reducing the use of gas turbines, the project helps cut CO2 emissions by more than 200,000 tonnes/year.

After approximately 25 years of development, subsea gas compression technology has advanced to a readiness level worthy of full implementation in the North Sea.
