US federal agencies should develop new crosscutting programs to advance the mathematical, statistical, and computational foundations underlying digital twin technologies, says a new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

With funding from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, the Argonne National Laboratory will explore using a method known for analyzing nuclear systems to enhance safety in offshore oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

Harish Krishnamoorthy, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Houston, has been selected by the National Academies’ Gulf Research Program as an early-career research fellow in the Offshore Energy Safety track.

The Gulf Research Program of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine announced the grant awards for eight projects focused on strengthening safety culture in the offshore oil and gas industry.
