One of the biggest discoveries in the past decade, Sangomar, moves closer to sanction as operator Woodside and its joint venture partners submit the plan for the field's development. First oil from Senegal's first offshore development is scheduled for 2023.

The Yakaar-2 appraisal well encountered 30 m of net gas pay in a similar high-quality Cenomanian reservoir as the Yakaar-1 discovery well drilled in 2017.

The E&P company said that a reduction in its interests for projects off the coast of the West African nations should still happen by the end of this year. This includes the large Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG project, which is set to start up in 2022.

The vessel will produce approximately 2.5 mtpa of LNG for the project, which is expected to deliver first gas in 2022.

The two companies will collaborate to define the technology and equipment scope for an initial four-well development phase for BP’s major West African offshore gas project.
