The World Bank has urged countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council to prioritize environmental sustainability while diversifying their economies away from a reliance on hydrocarbon revenues in an era of lower energy prices.

Saudi Aramco has announced that it is joining the World Bank initiative Zero Routine Flaring by 2030. Flaring by the company has remained at less than 1% of its total raw gas production in the first half of 2019.
