Join us in congratulating the International Award recipients.
Six SPE geographical sections across the world have won the 2026 Presidential Award for Outstanding Section.
These awards recognize those members who have contributed exceptional service and leadership to the Society, as well as those who have made major professional contributions to their technical disciplines at the regional level.

SPE is accepting nominations for its annual awards, including international and regional Health, Safety, and Environment awards and Sustainability and Stewardship awards. The deadline for international award nominations is 15 February, and the deadline for regional award nominations is 1 March. -
“Opening our sails” is a metaphor that the worst of the storm has passed or is passing, and it is time to get ourselves shipshape, making necessary repairs and preparations, and get back on course.

Charles Bare, 1979 SPE President and an Honorary Member of the Society, died 25 October. He was 88.

I begin this column by saying that after attending several recent SPE events filled with students and professionals, all virtual of course, that I have seen the very best of us as members of SPE. To a person, you all have been nothing short of inspiring.

Peer review is a demanding and time-consuming task. SPE’s A Peer Apart award recognizes those dedicated individuals involved in the review of 100 or more papers for SPE’s peer-reviewed journals.

Ford Brett, SPE, was recognized with the 2020 American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) Presidential Citation. The award recognizes extraordinary and dedicated service to further the goals, purposes, and traditions of AIME.
