Six SPE geographical sections across the world have won the 2026 Presidential Award for Outstanding Section.
These awards recognize those members who have contributed exceptional service and leadership to the Society, as well as those who have made major professional contributions to their technical disciplines at the regional level.

2017 SPE President Janeen Judah shares the goals for her presidency and the strategies she has planned to guide SPE through the downturn. Seconded to this position from Chevron, Judah will take office during the 2016 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE). -

Kenneth George Nolte, SPE, died 6 July 2016. He was 74 years old. He was recognized as a legend of hydraulic fracturing and was most known for his contribution to the Nolte-Smith Plot, which revolutionized the interpretation of net-pressure behavior during and after hydraulic fracture treatments. Hubert (Hugh) L. Elkins, an industry pioneer in offshore drilling equipment and technologies, died 18 March 2016. He was 81.

Edgar Rangel-German, SPE, commissioner of Mexico’s regulatory agency National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) and one of the key members behind the implementation of Mexico’s recent energy reform for hydrocarbons, died 23 March. He was 42.

Donald Russell, 1974 SPE president, died 19 December 2015. He was 84.

Horace Randolph (Randy) Crawford, SPE, died 16 December 2015 at age 87. He was a pioneer in fracture treatment designs and products and was honored as a JPT Legend of Production and Operations in 2009.
