Turkey’s state-owned TPAO has awarded global steel-pipe manufacturer Tenaris a pair of contracts to supply seamless and welded pipes for Phase 3 of the ultradeepwater Sakarya Gas project in the Black Sea.
Tenaris will deliver 22,700 tons of seamless pipes for flowlines and for a 62-km monoethylene glycol (MEG) pipeline under the contract, as well as 87,800 tons of welded pipes for a 180-km export pipeline, the company announced in a 3 February news release.
A further 7,700 tons of pipe will be manufactured for production risers, MEG risers, and an export pipeline.
Turkey’s Sakarya field, at 2,150-m water depth 170 km offshore Turkey, holds an estimated 710 Bcm in gas reserves. It is the largest hydrocarbon discovery made in the Black Sea to date, with subsea hazards that include earthquakes, unstable sediments, and a bottom layer of H2S.
Manufacturing in Italy and Brazil
Tenaris will manufacture seamless pipes at its Dalmine mill in Italy including anode pads and buckle arrestors. TenarisShawcor three-layer polypropylene anticorrosion coating will be applied at the company’s coating facility in Villamarzana, Italy, Tenaris said in its release.
Tenaris’s Confab mill in Pindamonhangaba, Brazil, will manufacture the welded pipes, also with anticorrosion coating and anode pads. In addition, a 1.2-km section of the export pipeline will be coated with concrete to enhance stability on the seabed.
“Tenaris’s One Line model is a comprehensive portfolio of flexible service offerings that fast-track dynamic and technically complex projects to deliver reliable solutions …,” said Davide Mengoli, Tenaris commercial senior director, pipelines and services for the Mediterranean, Caspian, Middle East & Asia.
Tenaris said it is also supplying TPAO with 10,000 tons of offshore drill casing, partly coated with Dopeless technology—a mill-applied, high-performance, dry lubricant that simplifies handling, eliminates the need for traditional thread and storage compounds, and enhances operational reliability and safety.
