BP Trinidad and Tobago achieved first gas at its Matapal subsea development offshore Trinidad. The project comprises three wells which tie back into the existing Juniper platform. Matapal is located about 80 km off the southeast coast of Trinidad and approximately 8 km east of Juniper, in a water depth of 163 m.

Matapal will deliver gas to the Trinidad gas market from resources discovered by the Savannah exploration well, drilled in 2017. Hydrocarbons from the field are being transported to the Juniper platform via a pair of 9-km flexible flowlines. The initial production from this development is expected to be in the range of 250–350 MMcf/D, once all planned wells are fully ramped up.
