SPE’s Sustainable Development Technical Section (SDTS) has risen to the top. It has been awarded the first Presidential Award for Outstanding Technical Section. The award, new for 2022 but planned to be annual, recognizes the top 5% of technical section throughout the society. The Flow Assurance and Hydraulic Fracturing Technical Sections both earned the Technical Section Excellence Award.
“We’ve built a top team,” said SDTS Chairman Josh Etkind, “and have delivered an ambitious program of more than 40 virtual and in-person events.”
The crown jewel of the SDTS is the SPE Gaia Sustainability Program. The program is designed to empower all oil and gas professionals at all levels to address the planet’s sustainability challenges. It engages with people through an active LinkedIn group with more than 1,200 members and a popular series of SPE Live Events.
The STDS is also working beyond its borders. “In collaboration with Completions and Projects, Facilities, and Construction technical directors, we’ve also launched the Methane Emissions Management Technical Section to focus industry efforts on eliminating all methane emissions from oil and gas value chains globally,” Etkind said.
The Presidential Award for Outstanding Technical Section will be presented at the President’s Luncheon at SPE’s Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE). This year, ATCE will be held 3–5 October in Houston. The President’s Luncheon will be on 5 October.
